Quilted Paintings
For the last several years I’ve struggled with what to call my textile creations. “Art Quilt” is the most frequently used term for this sort of work—two or more layers of cloth/fiber stitched together to create a work of art intended for display rather than domestic function. Increasingly though, it’s become difficult for me to convey the nature of my work using that term. I think of these as painting and I’ve started referring to my newest work as “Quilted Paintings.” These are whole cloth compositions layered with batting and backing material then quilted to add a final layer of texture, shadow, and line. Many of them include additional hand stitch to add or accentuate detail.

Interaction series (2023 - present)
Interaction is my newest series, and it is an exploration of how shapes interact with the assistance of line, color, and other compositional decisions.
More Than Black & White series (2022 - present)
The More Than Black & White series began as an exploration of black and while compositions and evolved into a reflection on the summer of Black Lives Matter protests. On a deeper level these pieces are also about history, division, unity, violence, and social justice.
Organic Forms series (2019 - present)
Organic Forms focuses on sinuous lines and amoeboid shapes resembling the imaginary objects one might see through a microscope.
Mindful Scribbling series (2022 - 2023)
The Mindful Scribbling series is based on a set of drawings created at a time when my life got complicated. Read more about this series in a detailed article on my blog.
Outward Movement series (2018 - 2022)
Points, lines, and shapes interact in these compositions that raise questions about movement away from a center point and wether that center will hold. Read more about this series on my blog.
Beautiful Chaos (2018 - present)
Chaos sounds inherently bad, and yet, it’s in chaotic environments that change happens.
Interplay (2018)
This is a small series of formal compositions focused on the most basic principles of design.
Reformation (2021 - present)
The "Reformation" series is about revisiting and rethinking artifacts of the past and using them as a starting point for new work. The series sprang from my return to the studio after a traumatic year for my family and my subsequent struggle to start working again after an unintended hiatus of 10 months. All of the artwork in this series was created by cutting and reworking some of my older finished artwork.
The first nine pieces in the series were completed in June 2021. More will follow.

Restructured Circles (2011 - 2013)
All of the compositions in the series were developed by cutting and tearing whole cloth paintings of circles and reassembling them to form new circles. In doing so, I'm seeking to add liveliness to the design and represent both the brokenness in our lives and the wholeness than can be achieved by reassembling those broken pieces.
